Profile of Prof. YOSHIMI Shunya

Professor of Interfaculty Initiative in Information Studies (III), The University of Tokyo. Dean of III between April 2006 and March 2009, and President of The University of Tokyo Newspaper since June 2009. Prof. Yoshimi is the Director of Centre for Research and Development of Higher Education, Head of Education and Research Council and Head of Archives Section of the University of Tokyo since 2010, and Vice President of The University of Tokyo since 2011. Departing from the analysis of formation of drama in the space of gathering, Prof. Yoshimi has been analyzing popular cultures, daily lives and how power plays in such spaces. While his main field of researches are sociology, urban studies, media studies and cultural studies, Prof. Yoshimi has been a central figure and pioneer in the cultural studies field in Japan with his Dramaturgy approach. His major publications include Toshi no Doramaturugi (Dramaturgy in the City: A Social History of Popular Entertainments in Modern Tokyo), Hakurankai no Seijigaku (The Politics of Exposition: Imperialism, Commercialism and Popular Entertainment), Shomotsu to Eizou no Mirai (Future of Books and Videos), Daigaku towa Nanika (What is University), etc.

Profile of Prof. CUI Baoguo

Vice president, Professor and tutor of doctoral students of the School of Journalism & communication, Tsinghua University. Graduated from Department of Chinese Language and Literature, Nanjing Normal University in 1984. Cui later went to study in Japan in 1990 and obtained the master degree and PhD degree in Information Science in Tohoku University.

After returned to China, he had been Associate Professor and Vice President of School of Journalism & communication, Nanjing Normal University and Vice chairman of News Talents Training Center of Jiangsu province. In 2002, he was appointed professor of School of Journalism and Communication of Tsinghua University. Since 2004, he served as the director of media economics and management research center, Tsinghua University School of Journalism and Communication.

In 2006, he co-founded Tsinghua Nikkei Institute of Media Studies and has been the director since then. In 2010, co-founded Tsinghua NetEase future media research center. Cui Baoguo also served as the vice chairman of Chinese communication research council, guest professor of Japan's Tohoku Welfare University.

The main research fields of Professor Cui Baoguo are: new media and media economy.
Professor Cui Baoguo has been the editor in chief of Report on the development of China media industry (The Blue Book of Media Industry) published by Social Science Document Press from 2004. It is the most comprehensive review on the development of the overall development in Chinese media industry.
